How can I assign contacts to a specific user?

There are four different ways to assign contacts to a specific user or Contact Owner.

At time of import:

This can be done by clicking the "Enable Default Value Import" box on the Import Mapping page and selecting the Contact Owner user name from the drop down menu across from the Contact Owner filed.  

If multiple Contact Owners are required, add a new column to your CSV file and populate with the VanillaSoft username. Make the column header 'Contact Owner' and make sure this field is mapped to the Contact Owner field before starting import.

Assign Contact Owner when a contact is resulted:

You can set up a result code to be assigned to a Contact Owner once that result code is used. From the Result Code page got to the User Assignment column drop down beside the result code. You can assign the contact to a specific user, a specific team, or give the user the ability to choose to whom to assign the contact. You can use this to ensure that once a contact has been contacted it will always go back to the same person. 

After import, batch update:

Build a Contact Management query of the contacts you want to assign to a user. In this query, add in the Contact Owner field. Run the query, click on Perform Task and select Update Contacts. Check the Contact Owner field, select the username that you want to assign. Click on Update Contacts.

Edit one contact at a time:

Search contact from admin side, assign a user by selecting their username from the drop-down menu beside Contact Owner

Note: Callbacks, unless otherwise configured using the User Assignment setting, will always go back to the salesperson who set the callback, but will not be permanently assigned to that user as a Contact Owner.
