SmartCaller ID, also known as local presence, is a feature designed to increase the likelihood of your calls being answered by displaying a local number on the recipient’s caller ID. This feature is particularly effective because people are more inclined to answer calls from local numbers compared to unfamiliar or long-distance numbers. Here’s how SmartCaller ID works and how you can leverage it in your VanillaSoft VoIP account.
Getting Started with SmartCaller ID
-
Order Area Codes: You will need to order a minimum of six area codes through your VanillaSoft Account Representative or by contacting sales@vanillasoft.com.
-
Assignment of SmartCaller ID Numbers: A unique SmartCaller ID phone number is assigned for each ordered area code. These numbers are added to your exclusive SmartCaller ID pool, which is separate from your regular VanillaSoft VoIP numbers.
-
Matching and Displaying Numbers: When making a call, the system automatically checks the area code of the number being called against your SmartCaller ID pool. If a matching area code is found, the corresponding SmartCaller ID number is displayed on the contact’s caller ID.
Incoming Calls with SmartCaller ID
Directing Return Calls
During the setup of your SmartCaller ID feature, you designate one of your VanillaSoft VoIP numbers as the 'target' number. This is the number to which all return calls to the SmartCaller ID numbers will be directed. Note that you can only have one target number for all your SmartCaller ID numbers.
Intelligent Routing Option
If a contact calls back using the SmartCaller ID number displayed on their phone, the call can be intelligently routed. The system is designed to direct the call to the last VanillaSoft VoIP line that dialed that number within the past seven days. If no calls have been made to that number within seven days, the call reverts to the original target number.
Once SmartCaller ID is integrated into your VanillaSoft VoIP account, you have the flexibility to enable or disable this feature as needed. For detailed instructions on how to manage SmartCaller ID settings, please refer to the How to Enable/Disable SmartCaller ID article.
