Configure Your Yahoo SMTP Server Within VanillaSoft

Since VanillaSoft does not allow the sending of emails from a ‘free’ email address, such as Yahoo, you will need to either change your profile to use a company email address or configure your Yahoo SMTP server within both your Yahoo account and your VanillaSoft account. This article will go over the steps needed to maintain a Yahoo account within VanillaSoft.

Yahoo SMTP Settings

Use the following Email Account information when setting up your SMTP server in VanillaSoft.

Host / Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Account Name/User Name: Your Yahoo address (for example, example@yahoo.com)
Password: Your Yahoo password
Port: 465
Use SSL: Yes

 

Configure Your Yahoo Account

All steps listed here are from Yahoo's Add Two-Step Verification for Extra Security knowledge base article. 

 

Turn on Two-Step Verification 

  1. Sign in to your Yahoo account.

  2. Click your Username, then select Settings.

  3. Click the Security menu option on the left.

  4. Under 2-Step Verification, click Turn on.

  5. Choose your Your phone number as your verification method.

  6. Choose the phone number you want to use and how you will receive the verification code.

  7. Once received, enter the verification code, then click Continue to verify.

  8. Click Generate App Passwords and proceed below.

Create App Passwords

  1.  Click on Get Started.

  2. Type a name like "VanillaSoft" in to the App name field, then click Generate password.

  3. Copy down the 16-character App Password, shown at the top.

    • Note: Use this copied App Password for your Yahoo SMTP settings in VanillaSoft as described in the steps below.
  4. Click Done.

Setup Email Account Within VanillaSoft as an Admin

  1. Log in to VanillaSoft as an Admin.

  2. From the menu at the top, select Users.

  3. Click on the username you wish to configure.

  4. Under the Email Account section, click + More options.

  5. Click Connect with SMTP.

  6. In the SMTP Connection pop-up window, fill out all of the SMTP settings fields with your Yahoo SMTP Settings.

    • Note: Use your copied App Password, from the steps above, as your SMTP password within VanillaSoft.
  7. Once done, click Connect.

Setup Email Account Within VanillaSoft as a Caller

  1. Log in to VanillaSoft as a Caller.

  2. Click on your username in the top-right corner.

  3. Select My Email Account New from the left-hand pane.

  4. Under the Email Account section, click + More options.

  5. Click Connect with SMTP.

  6. In the SMTP Connection pop-up window, fill out all of the SMTP settings fields with your Yahoo SMTP Settings.

  7. Once done, click Connect.
